My Second Diaper Cake for twins!

I made my first diaper cake about two years ago. It was also four layers high and had a blank and pink color scheme. <3

This one, I made for my cousin who is having twins! I couldn’t really decide on a set color scheme so I used the basics: pink, blue, green, yellow. 4 layers, around 108 diapers, 3 bottles, 4 spoons, 2 bottles of shampoo, 2 bottles of baby lotion, 2 bottles of baby powder, 6 pairs of socks, 2 stuffed animals and a bouquet of flowers for the top cost me around $50 and about two hours to construct.

Rebinding an old book into a journal and sketchbook

So my latest venture into arts and crafts is the rebinding of books. Specifically, rebinding old books into journals. This was my first one, I completed it a few weeks ago. I picked up the book at a used book store for $5 and the rest of the materials I already had on hand. The book was in okay shape but I did rip the spine a little while tearing the pages out. I used coffee stained drawing paper that was hand torn while wet to give the pages uneven edges. I also kept some of the original pages of the book. Mostly, the parts I actually liked or thought had special meaning about love or religion.

I’ve even begun writing in it and throwing a few pictures between the pages. I thank all those movies and TV shows where people keep these amazing journals for this idea. Now I’m always stopping by used book stores and the library looking for old books to do this to. By the way, used books are so cheap at the library $0.50 – $1.00. I’ll probably be giving these away as Christmas presents. I think I’ll make a tutorial for rebinding old books into journals in the future when I get a little better at it. I found so few tutorials on how to do this I kind of just made it up as I went along and learned quite a few lessons. I have a much larger book titled Australia that I plan on making into a travel journal for the day I finally visit the great continent of Australia.

I don’t know what happened. I used to be so good at communicating online and through other mediums like texting. I’ve compiled a list of screenshots to prove my case. I am pretty sure my voice mail is full too because people keep telling me they can’t leave messages. How odd. I am pretty sure most of the stuff is junk and spam hence why I don’t even bother checking anymore. The internet used to be such a fun place before spam and the technologically illiterate.

Anyone else stop checking their mailboxes? Voice mail is completely understandable as most people just say “call me back” and I don’t usually need to know who it is because I have caller ID. I mean, I probably didn’t answer your phone call for a reason, right? But what about email? At least with my normal email I have spam filters to filter out the crap but I just cannot bring myself to check MySpace and Facebook messages anymore. I will admit I have no excuse for not checking text messages but I guarantee that most of those unread ones are crap and spam too.

Birthday Party Lollipop Invitations

My youngest cousin will be turning 2 in just a few days and her party will be in a couple weekends. I made invitations for it. I got the lollipop invitation idea from the internet. It cost less than $4 to put 25 of these together. Most of the materials that I didn’t already have I got on sale at Joann’s. These were cheap, super cute invitations and I enjoyed making them with help of course.

New Wall Hangings

This is the year for home decorating.. I think. It is always nice making your house feel more like a home. I still call the house my parents live at “home” maybe one day I can think of this place as “home”.

I recieved this great piece for Christmas and just got around to putting it up. It holds pictures and what-nots. I didn’t have any small pictures to put in it just yet but I’ll get around to finding some!

I was walking through Target the other day picking up so CRAZY coupon deals and I spotted this gorgeous oval-shape mirror. I have been looking for a circular shaped mirror for this one wall in my house for a long time. While it was not circular, I was intrigued and I looked all over but I just could not find a price tag for it so I left it there. Today, I happened to be in the exact same Target and they happened to still have the exact same mirror. Again, I wanted the mirror. This time I found a price tag that said $19.99. Not too bad but I still wasn’t sure that was the right price tag so I asked one of the clerks nearby to price check it, $9.97 on clearance. Now, that is a deal I cannot pass up. The clerk looked like she was about to ask me if I was going to buy it or not and likely would have snatched it right off the shelf if I’d have put it back!

Have you ever noticed that people tend to remember criticism better than they do compliments? We also put more weight in criticism. I am more likely going to remember one negative insult for a lot longer than I will remember an instance of flattery. Now, someone may or may not be insulting you when they use criticism, but have you ever notice how quickly we will go into denial? So when the clerk at the corner store tells me that I am bitter (yea, I thought clerks were supposed to be nice too) I had to think about it for a moment.

Don’t ask what came over me this year and why I wanted to do this because I honestly don’t have an answer. I have plenty of Christmas themed wrapping papers on hand but the newspaper on my desk was screaming at me, “I’m bored!” So I decided to wrap my Christmas gifts this year in newspaper instead of the traditional Christmas themed paper.

Afterwards, when I looked at all I had accomplished, I felt good about recycling and making something semi-creative. I’m quite certain that they aren’t the loveliest of gifts and that at least one person in my family will scoff at them but I’m pleased. It should be the gift that matters right? Or is it supposed to be the thought… Either way, I’m happy with the result. I added ribbons, cord and hand-made tags to each gift to give them that extra sparkle.

Boating Adventures at Lake Mead

My parents recently bought a boat. I thought it was kind of funny since neither of them have ever had a boat before and I had repeatedly said they should get one but my step dad would always say, “the two best days in a boat-owners life are the day they buy a boat and the day they sell it.” I don’t know what convinced him but next thing I knew they had themselves a little fishing boat. I ventured out with them to the lake today mostly just to take photos and make sure they didn’t get into any serious accidents or anything. Lake Mead is a pretty fun little place. We saw Hoover Dam and all kinds of other nice stuff. I put together my own little montage because I’m groovy.

I enjoyed the time with my family and the time on the Lake. Mind you, I hate being in the sun and wore a sweater with sweat pants the entire time but lucky for me, it wasn’t too hot.

Friday Favorites

Friday is almost always a good day simply because, well, it is Friday. I’m going to ring in this Friday by sharing some of my favorite things for this week.

Coupons. I was never really worried about saving money until suddenly I had none. Now it is top priority on my list. I’m constantly checking clearance racks, watching my advertisements and clipping coupons. I love a good deal and I am elated every time I feel like I’m getting something for free.

Today I went to CVS Pharmacy and spent a total of $18.70 before taxes. I got all of these items including Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on DVD. The DVD alone should have cost me over $20. The Corrs. I’ve really been enjoying their music this week. They are kind of a folk rock band with a mix of Celtic. Whatever you call it, it works for them and I love the way they harmonize.

WinDirStat – Windows Directory Statistics. I came across this nifty little program a while ago and I love it. It basically scans your hard drive and tells you what type of files are taking up the most space. For me, it is all the audio and video files I have. Along with World of Warcraft, which takes up about 15GB. It is a pretty nifty program and it lets you delete files in bulk right from the program. The Renaissance Fair. I went to the Renaissance Fair a couple weeks ago and I very much enjoyed it. I didn’t think that there would be quite as many people as there were or that so many people would get so into it by dressing up and what not. Anyhow, there were some people that had costumes on that didn’t make one lick of sense to me such as these guys that dressed up as characters from Star Trek. I figure that some people tend to treat it as more cosplay than a Renaissance Fair. It made for an interesting photo anyways, especially when they came upon this guy in a dragon costume-thingy-ma-jig.
